Gonaives 2008
In the first eight months of 2008, two tropical storms and two hurricanes hit Haiti leaving more than a million people homeless. Fields, crops and houses were completely destroyed leaving the poorest country in the western hemisphere even poorer. People were seeking shelter in schools, churches and living with their relatives. The government estimated that it would take at least a year to clean up the city of Gonaives which was severely hit.
